About Us

Tucked away in Gastown’s historic Blood Alley in Downtown Vancouver, Is That French has quickly become the go-to spot for locals and tourists alike, who are looking for an innovative take on Pacific Northwest cuisine.

We have a dynamic menu that boasts a variety of dishes made with fresh, seasonal produce, sourced from nearby farms and markets. Our raw bar offers a variety of the highest quality sustainable seafood, including a diverse selection of oysters from coast to coast, shucked to perfection. There’s something for every taste.

Come for the food, but stay for the wine! Our extensive wine list features a range of minimal-intervention BC wine, all hand-selected and precisely paired with our tapas style dishes. Each wine selection has a story, whether that be about a husband and wife team that pick, process, and bottle their own wine, or a group of winemaking friends dreaming up cutting-edge creations and helping their community while they do it. Supporting the community is at the core of who we are!

The mission is to bring people together to enjoy each other over great wine and food, and occasionally incredible music. Every Thursday, a local jazz artist joins us to play live music to set the mood, adding to the uncomplicated and relaxed atmosphere. We have also added l’apero (aka happy hour) on Friday and Saturday, for those looking to get an early bite and a glass (or two) of wine.

Our cheekily named restaurant is what you make it. Is it a wine bar? Is it an oyster bar? Is it French? The point is, there are no rules when it comes to the menu, other than having the highest quality ingredients showcasing what the Pacific Northwest has to offer, where it feels like a fine dining experience but in a laid back setting.

We want to change the way Vancouver dines, and we think we have the recipe.
